Individual psychotherapy involves meeting one on one with your clinician for approximately 55 minutes on a weekly or biweekly basis. Clinicians at Hygge take a client-centered, relational approach which means they provide you an environment that fosters a strong therapeutic relationship and autonomy. In addition, your therapist will use a variety of evidence-based interventions to promote your growth.
During the first few weeks of meeting, your therapist will be asking you an array of questions in order to get to know you, understand the areas you would like to work on in therapy, and develop a plan to help you reach your goals. Once a therapeutic relationship has been fostered, sessions will shift to focusing on your presenting concerns and reaching your goals. While, at times, your therapist may challenge you and help direct the narrative of sessions, ultimately, individual psychotherapy focuses on your needs and your therapist will routinely ask for feedback to ensure that you are getting the most out of your sessions.

A basic diagnostic evaluation for mental health involves gathering information about your psychological and emotional well-being. This evaluation involves two, 55 minute clinical interviews, during which a mental health professional will ask you about various aspects of your life such as symptom history, interests, personal strengths, medical history, medications, substance use, family dynamics and childhood experiences. Your clinician may also conduct a series of questionnaires to evaluate symptoms related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance abuse.
Your clinician may also ask for information from family and friends to gain a deeper understanding of your concerns, lifestyle, and relationships. The goal of the assessment is to establish an accurate diagnosis and develop recommendations tailored to your needs. You will receive a written report which includes a summary of your history, clinical impressions, and recommendations once your evaluation is completed. A 30 minute feedback session will be scheduled to answer any questions you may have regarding the report.
This evaluation does not involve formal neuropsychological testing, which is a more extensive evaluation to assess specific cognitive abilities. If your clinician feels you would benefit from further testing, you will be referred to an organization that can further accommodate your needs.
